ABOUT US
Founded by DC native, Thorne Rankin, over 35 years ago, we are a small woman-owned landscape design firm with a passion for creating gardens that foster a deep connection with the natural world. Our journey began with a mission of designing spaces to beautify homes, but also to help enrich the environment and local habitat. Throughout the years, we have built gardens throughout the DC, Maryland, and Virginia metropolitan area, from apartment patios to backyard oases.
OUR PROCESS
CONSULTATION
Our process begins with a site meeting. We’ll evaluate the garden space, review ideas and inspiration, as well as address site challenges and design goals.
PROPOSAL
The proposal for schematic design services will outline issues to be addressed during the design process, including hardscaping, site work, and planting.
DESIGN
We develop a base map from an on-site analysis, typically using information from existing surveys and plans. Once we have identified and documented site conditions, we create a schematic design plan that addresses objectives.
BUDGET
We work with owners to create a manageable budget which meets their needs and identifies priorities for project scope.
IMPLEMENTATION
We organize and oversee all aspects of garden building from meeting contractors, managing the proposal process, and scheduling and supervising contractors during installation.
